Johnson/Gorham moving forward...where are our alders?

As mentioned a month ago, the City will soon conduct a study on switching East Johnson and Gorham Streets to two-way traffic, as part of the reconstruction of Johnson. What's billed as the first of four meetings on the proposal will be held on November 10th.

Where are our Northside alders on this?

The release suggests (but doesn't state outright) that the four meetings are being presented by Traffic Engineering and Ald. Bridget Maniaci, who represents the north isthmus. Presumably, the meetings are geared toward the residents in her district who live along Johnson and Gorham.

But this proposal would alter the transportation network of the entire Northside. Our two main traffic arteries flow into two locations, East Johnson over the river and First Street leading to East Washington. Restricting traffic flow on Johnson/Gorham will dump more Northside traffic onto First and East Wash.

As I said before, making our lives worse so some well-to-do isthmus homeowners can increase their property values is a horrible proposition for the Northside. And I expect Alds. Weier and Rhodes-Conway to lead the charge on our behalf.
